Purpose

Our hospital

The Armadale Veterinary Hospital is a modern veterinary hospital located in Armadale, with a focus on providing the best care possible to our pet community. We believe all life is precious and we want to make a real difference to the people and animals in our community.

We want you to feel empowered to make the best decisions for the health of your furry friend. It goes without saying that we love animals, but we really do take pride in providing the best possible care for your pet!

Our Mission

We believe all life is precious and we want to make a real difference to the people and animals of our community. We believe in clear and open communication with owners regarding the options available and want people to leave their appointment feeling informed and empowered to do what’s best for their pet. We believe in the highest standards of care however we also recognise that veterinary care is expensive and that working with you (that is, not being judgemental and trying to understand your specific needs and circumstances) is critical to getting the best outcome. The animal’s wellbeing is ALWAYS our primary concern and all recommendations come with this as consideration number one. We want you and your animal to have the best possible experience with us and have designed our clinics and structured our consultations to facilitate this. We believe in continual development and learning and regularly do CPD both in-house through Journal Clubs and externally via courses, webinars, accreditation programs and conferences.

Our Glen Iris Clinic is an ASAVA clinic of excellence and an ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic. Our Armadale clinic (a little younger) is in the process of going through this accreditation process. We value each other and believe in a workplace that brings purpose, happiness and contributes positively to our community. We also believe in working hard. We want to be a leader in the industry and for that reason we are continually re-evaluating how we do things to make sure we are providing the most up to date advice to our owners.

We believe in pushing into new frontiers and being a leader in the industry. For example, when we first started doing laparoscopic de-sexings, very few other clinics were doing them (there are still only a handful that do them). We’ve done thousands of these since our first one in 2015 and have shown the procedure to be safe and effective and by doing so we have avoided the unnecessary discomfort of a large wound in these patients. We also, through our head vet Dr Jason Rapke, started charity Best Mates (since re-named Pets in the Park), which provided veterinary care to pets of the homeless. This is our DNA.

Our expertise

We understand the importance of utilising advancements in the veterinary medicine field, which is why we specialise in Laparascopic spey surgery.

Dr Meaghan O’brien is an experienced veterinary surgeon with years of performing desexing procedures. The Lap Spey is performed using laparoscopic equipment, which drastically reduces the size of the incision needed for a spey procedure. This results in much less post-operative pain, faster recovery and less wound complications.
